I’m Gaurav Kumar, a final year Research Scholar in Earth and Environmental Sciences at IISER Bhopal, India and working in the field of Igneous geochemistry and geochronology. With an M.Sc. in Applied Geology, I’ve dedicated my work to deciphering the Proterozoic–Quaternary history of the Shillong Plateau, Assam-Meghalaya Gneissic Complex (AMGC). My approach blends detailed petrography along with mineral chemistry, wholerock geochemistry, and Sr–Nd isotope studies to shed light on magmatic/sediment sources, relevant processes, and the tectonic narrative of the Shillong Plateau. Beyond analysis and fieldwork, I find balance through badminton and by sketching crosssectional geology.

Discrepancies in Global Carbon Cycle: How Prof. Louis A. Derry Cracked Carbon’s Cold Case

Scientists long couldn't trace all of Earth's carbon. Prof. Derry found the answer: rivers tricked us, methane secretly shifted carbon, and our planet now stores extra carbon as humans test Earth's balance.

When the Southern Ocean Breathes🌊: Prof. Elisabeth Sikes Unlocks Antarctica’s Carbon Code 🔓 for Climate Control ♻️

"The Southern Ocean doesn’t just absorb carbon, it decides when to spit it back at us" as Prof. Sikes said in her Goldschmidt 2025 plenary talk. “When Antarctica exhales, the planet warms. And right now, it’s hyperventilating."
