Meet the Goldschmidt2025 bloggers

As Goldschmidt2025 in Prague kicks off, we are delighted to introduce you to our intrepid group of Goldschmidt bloggers, who will be reporting back for us from the conference daily, sharing their first-hand experiences and all the latest happenings!

Read on to meet the team, and follow their Goldschmidt2025 posts throughout the week on EAG and Goldschmidt social media channels and on the EAG blogosphere here.

Bidisha Dey

I am an isotope geochemist specialising in radiogenic Pb-Sr-Nd and stable Mg isotopic systems. My research focuses on the mechanism by which crustal material is recycled into the mantle during subduction, and how this recycled material is resurfaced through volcanic activity. Our recent work on the geochemistry of Cenozoic basalts in southwest Japan suggests that discrete components of crustal material can remain intact in the upper mantle for billions of years without being homogenised by mantle convection.

In addition to petrological research, I use radiogenic isotopes of lead and strontium as tracers to determine the origin and mobility of Chalcolithic human and domesticated cattle in India.

I am from Kolkata, India, where I completed my education up to Master’s level. I then moved to Hiroshima, Japan, to undertake my PhD. I am currently working as an assistant professor at Kanazawa University.

Gaurav Kumar

I’m Gaurav Kumar, a final-year PhD researcher in Earth and Environmental Sciences at IISER Bhopal—India’s premier institute for interdisciplinary science education and research. My research investigates the igneous geochemistry and geochronology of the Shillong Plateau and the Assam-Meghalaya Gneissic Complex (AMGC), focusing on Rodinia break-up related mafic dolerites, Pan-African granites, intervening rhyolites, and their associated metamorphic and meta-sedimentary units.

By integrating petrography, mineral chemistry, whole-rock geochemistry, and Sr–Nd isotopic analyses, I aim to reconstruct the tectono-magmatic evolution and high-temperature–pressure conditions that influenced crustal development during major orogenic cycles.
I hold an M.Sc. in Applied Geology. Outside the lab, I unwind by playing badminton and hand-sketching geological cross-sections—a creative outlet that helps me visualize Earth’s deep-time stories. At Goldschmidt 2025, I look forward to engaging with global researchers on crust-mantle dynamics, building collaborations, and enjoying a well-deserved taste of Prague’s pastries!

Sri Budhi Utami

My name is Sri Budhi Utami, or Sri (pronouns: she/her). I am a postdoctoral fellow currently based in Belgium but will move to Australia soon. I am a volcano petrologist, or someone who studies the rock and mineral record of active volcanoes using (experimental) petrology, diffusion chronometry, and of course, geochemistry! I am Indonesian by passport but grew up internationally mobile, having lived in the Netherlands, Scotland, Canada, Singapore, and Belgium. In my spare time, I enjoy learning new languages, travelling, hiking, water sports, and cooking. I was part of the European Association of Geochemistry’s Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion team last year and will be assisting as a facilitator with the Hidden Histories workshop. This will be my 2nd Goldschmidt conference, and I’m excited to meet other international researchers, showcase my research, and share my passion for geochemistry!

Piyal Halder

I am a final-year PhD student at the Birbal Sahni Institute of Palaeosciences, Lucknow (DST, Govt. of India) and registered at the AcSIR (An Institute of National importance). My doctoral research delves into the intricate dynamics of fluid-rock interaction in the pre-Deccan Basement rocks and its implications for seismicity at the Koyna-Warna Intraplate Region, Western India. I have been serving as a member of the Communications Committee of the European Association of Geochemistry (EAG) since January, 2024. Besides, I am acting as an Early Career Scientist (ECS) Representative of the GMPV Division of the EGU, with my Co-Representative Bartosz Puzio. This is my third time attending Goldschmidt, but my first time as an in-person attendee and blogger. I look forward to the workshops, talks, and poster sessions, and particularly the Plenary talks and medal lectures. I will hold a talk in session 04f on 8th July at 14:30. See you all in Prague. Cheers!

Hi, I’m based at the Institute of Science and Technology Austria in Vienna, where I work on de novo protein design. With a background in computational biochemistry, my previous work has focused on prebiotic chemistry and origins of life, and my academic journey spans institutions including the Chalmers University of Technology in Sweden, Harvard University in the US and the University of New South Wales in Australia.  I attended Goldschmidt conferences in 2021 and 2022, serving as a student helper, and look forward to continuing this role at Goldschmidt 2025 in Prague! I’m passionate about organic and analytical geochemistry, and am always looking for new collaborative opportunities in these fields.
